2025 Social Impact Report 21 20 Cancer has touched so many families. The Kauaʻi FCU team decided to do something about that. What began as a Pop Up for a Purpose thrift sale grew into months of sustained, staff-driven fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Across three separate sale events held at Kauaʻi FCU branches and Kalukalu at 1624, staff organized thrift sales stocked entirely from their own closets and bake sales made entirely from their own kitchens. No vendor was hired. No outside organization coordinated it. Every item donated, every good baked, and every dollar raised came directly from the Kauaʻi FCU ʻohana. The summer culminated at Relay for Life, where the team showed up under the theme "Rolling into Remission," setting up a booth, engaging with attendees, and carrying the energy of everything they had already done across the previous months into one final night of community and remembrance. Ahead of the event, branches sold luminaria bags hand- decorated by staff and members. When the annual luminaria ceremony arrived, and those bags were lit, each one carrying the name of someone loved, someone lost, someone still fighting. It was the quiet, powerful conclusion to a summer that had been building toward exactly that moment. KAUA‘I FCU RAISES $5K FOR THE CANCER SOCIETY 21 20
