The mission for Kaluaklau at 1624 is to be a gathering place that builds resilience in our community by serving its financial, cultural, and well-being needs. It is a place that bridges our values and gifts from the past, bringing them forward to support today’s needs and beyond.

Meet the partners

Kalukalu at 1624 is a space that fosters an ecosystem of partners, working cooperatively to provide
innovative and effective practical solutions that promote a thriving, resilient Kauai.
Here are the partners you can find at the space:

Waiwai Collective is a group of Native Hawaiian entrepreneurs who share kuleana and a passion for uplifting the lahui. Through their work, they have seen the extraordinary power of physical community when people come together with purpose and aloha. Ka Waiwai is a call to action for the lahui kanaka to come together and develop ideas for exchange and abundance that prioritize the quality of relationships and the balance between people and aina.

Kauai Makerspace is a community-operated, member-supported workspace where creativity, technology, and collaboration come together. Designed for people with shared interests in machining, technology, science, electronics, and hands-on making, the Makerspace provides access to state-of-the-art tools and equipment in a safe, supportive environment.

The University of Hawaii (UH) Office of Indigenous Knowledge and Innovation (OIKI) serves as a catalyst, convener, and pathway for UH students, faculty, and regional communities of practice to utilize ancestral sciences and technologies in ways that optimize contemporary innovation and restore Hawaii biosystems. Through facilitating equitable regeneration, we help catalyze social, ecological, and economic abundance at all levels on a local and global scale.

Kauai Commons is a first-of-its-kind incubator that fuses Indigenous wisdom with biomimicry and business strategy—turning Hawaii into a living blueprint for how humanity can thrive regeneratively on a finite planet. We blend the island’s ecological wisdom and Indigenous knowledge systems with the transformative power of biomimicry to catalyze a new model of economic stewardship. By creating experiential offerings, business incubation, and global consulting services, we support both local self-determination and off-island systems change.

Though the space is now open to the community, there is still more in the works at Kalukalu at 1624.
The project is moving forward in the Design Development phase, shaping spaces that strengthen
